>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. The Curwen Gallery exhibition of figurative painting continues until 29th October. It's a lovely space a few minutes walk from Goodge Street underground. I was pleased to have buyers for both of my paintings on the opening night. I am now hoping that the gallery may also take some of the paintings I am working on at the moment for future exhibitions. Current painting is from a photo of a pelican taken by Chris Shelley. His name will appear with a photographer credit quite often I think, as he has made some of his stunning catalogue of wild life pictures available to me. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. The illustration above this time is one of the series of monoprints from lino cuts that I have been making on the subject of water. This one shows rain falling on a pond on the left strip, and the on the right strip, the view from below the surface. The paper is a very delicate Japanese "Kozo" paper, thin enough for a printed image to appear through from the back. Hence the two leaves on the right hand strip are on the other side of the paper - as if they were on the other side of the water surface

Sunday 14th Sept. Wound up the engine of the "Bunny" and enjoyed the fabulous late summer weather, sailing a couple of miles north up the Grand Union canal from Watford Cassiobury park. Plenty of water birds here. They have made good subjects to paint water colour on wood, the grain making a nice water effect. Also a photographer friend of mine lives nearby and hopefully (if he's in generous mood) some of his amazing wildlife pictures may find themselves subjects for paintings. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. Recently I printed a number of monotypes from odds and ends collected on walks in Battersea park A few of these are the new illustrations here. They are very small, most of them no more than 8 inches high. I like the way they come out so finely detailed, like very delicate etchings. Each one is unique and there are about 24 printed so far. They are fun to make, and I expect to be making a lot more - perhaps a batch for each season. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. At the Wimbledon studios, Monica has finished her new horse painting (it has been bought while the paint is still wet!), and she has started straight into the next. Both paintings will feature in the Open studio exhibition coming up (13th - 16th November). I am a little further on with the CD cover, and almost finished on the John and Yoko print. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. There is also a Wimbledon Studios pop up exhibition taking place
Time: October 30th to
November 7th This will be a free entry exhibition with some 40 - 50 of the art studio community taking part. I know it is short notice , but there should be some more details available before the date.

On Sunday (7th Sept) I showed prints and paintings at the Putney Arts Fair. This event takes place on the first Sunday of each month. It was especially good this September as the organizers included a fun day for children with food stalls and rides. A lot of people came, and I want to thank all who stopped to ask about my work. I really enjoyed the feedback and conversations. Thank you especially to Suzanne. Also to Phillip at eyecandyartgroup.com and Jana. And to the excellent artist Olga, who I am lucky enough to share the space with Thank you and here's to next month. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Two paintings of mine have been included in the forthcoming competition / exhibition for figurative painting at the Curwen gallery, London. They are "An angry Swan" and "Buffalo". Both are water colour on wood. The exhibition runs 8th - 29th October. Gallery details are :
Curwen Gallery >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Normally I work on just one thing at a time but this week I'm juggling four! First is a CD cover for musician friend Tony Maude - the plan is for an experimental wood cut. More on this to follow. Also I'm making a 4 colour wood or lino print of my lovely grand daughter Imogen and her mum. There is a pencil and ink drawing of Alfie, a beagle that I once took for walks, and finally another colour woodcut, this one of John and Yoko. Probably to be called "All we are Saying..." An image based on the famous BED IN after their marriage, and when John recorded one of the best live songs ever made. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
